Adam Fantilli and Columbus Blue Jackets continue contract talks

Contract negotiations between the Columbus Blue Jackets and top center Adam Fantilli remain ongoing as the team approaches training camp. Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell stated that while a deal is not imminent, he is “100% certain” an agreement will be reached through regular communication with Fantilli’s agent.

However, reports indicate a shift in the expected valuation for Fantilli. Following recent high-value deals in the league, his camp is reportedly seeking an annual average value (AAV) closer to $15 million, up from previous estimates of $12 million. This presents a challenge for Columbus, which currently has approximately $12.6 million in available cap space. Additionally, Fantilli did not attend the team’s annual pre-camp golf tournament.

In separate news, Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk clarified his status following trade deadline rumors, stating on the record that he has not requested a trade and remains committed to helping the team win.
