As the team approaches training camp in September 2026, negotiations continue. Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell stated that while a deal is not imminent, he is “100% certain” an agreement will be reached through regular communication with Fantilli’s agent.

However, the valuation of the deal has reportedly shifted. Following high-value deals elsewhere in the league, Fantilli’s camp is seeking an annual average value (AAV) closer to $15 million, an increase from previous estimates. This creates a significant hurdle for Columbus, which currently has approximately $12.6 million in available cap space. Notably, Fantilli did not attend the team’s annual pre-camp golf tournament.
