Adam Fantilli signs $82.5M extension with Blue Jackets
Overview
Adam Fantilli, a restricted free agent for the Columbus Blue Jackets, has signed a six-year contract extension worth $82.5 million. The deal, which runs through the 2031-32 season, carries an annual average value (AAV) of $13.75 million, making the 21-year-old center the highest-paid player on the roster and marking the largest contract in franchise history.
The agreement concludes a period of negotiation that saw Fantilli miss the first week of training camp. The process was influenced by a shifting market for young stars following high-profile extensions for players such as Leo Carlsson and Connor Bedard.
General Manager Don Waddell praised Fantilli’s speed, skill, and competitive drive, emphasizing his importance to the franchise’s future. The signing follows a strong start to his professional career; in his first two seasons, Fantilli played 164 games and recorded 140 points, consisting of 67 goals and 73 assists.
