Adam Glapiński faces potential State Tribunal motion

The Sejm Constitutional Responsibility Committee has supported a motion to bring the President of the National Bank of Poland (NBP), Adam Glapiński, before the State Tribunal. The matter will now proceed to the Sejm.

Legal provisions indicate that even if the motion is passed, Glapiński will not be suspended from his duties. A formal removal would only occur following a verdict from the State Tribunal, at which point standard procedures for appointing a new central bank head would begin.

Concerns regarding a potential paralysis of the Monetary Policy Council (RPP) have been raised, though some analysts suggest the risk of operational interruption is low. Additionally, the NBP is facing challenges regarding its management board composition; the term for Vice President Adam Lipiński ends in early November, and previous attempts to appoint new members were hindered by a lack of countersignature from Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
