Adam Glapiński faces potential State Tribunal vote in Poland
The Polish Sejm is preparing to vote on a motion to bring Adam Glapiński, the President of the National Bank of Poland (NBP), before the State Tribunal. Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that the vote is tentatively planned for the second half of November.
A parliamentary Constitutional Responsibility Commission has issued a report following investigations into Glapiński’s actions. The allegations include violating the constitution and laws by directly financing the budget deficit through asset purchases between 2020 and 2021, conducting currency interventions without proper authorization, and failing to maintain political neutrality. If the motion is passed, Glapiński would be automatically suspended.
Parallel to the legal proceedings, the NBP faces a potential leadership crisis. There is a dispute regarding the appointment of management board members, as Prime Minister Donald Tusk has previously refused to countersign proposed candidates. Experts have warned that a lack of continuity in the NBP board could impact Poland’s economic credibility and credit ratings.
