Adam Glapiński faces constitutional accountability investigation

The Polish Constitutional Responsibility Commission is entering the final stages of its investigation into Adam Glapiński, the President of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). The commission is set to evaluate collected evidence and discuss a draft report regarding the motion to hold Glapiński constitutionally accountable.

Since the investigation began in May 2024, the commission has heard testimony from over 50 witnesses, including former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and members of the Monetary Policy Council. The primary allegations against Glapiński involve violations of the constitution and laws, specifically concerning the NBP's bond-buying program conducted between 2020 and 2021. Critics argue these actions constituted indirect financing of the state budget deficit without proper authorization.

The ruling coalition, which filed the motion in early 2024, aims to move the case toward the State Tribunal, which could potentially prevent Glapiński from continuing his current term.
