Adamawa lawyer defends Abdulrahaman Bashir Haske's governorship bid
A prominent Adamawa lawyer, Barrister AT Shehu, has addressed concerns regarding the governorship ambitions of Abdulrahaman Bashir Haske following a recent Court of Appeal ruling.
Shehu clarified that the judgment, which restricts candidates who participate in one party's primary and subsequently decamp to another to secure a ticket, does not apply to Haske. According to Shehu, Haske participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary but finished in third place and was never officially sponsored or submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as their candidate.
Haske resigned from the APC in August 2026 and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Following the voluntary withdrawal of the previous APM candidate, a fresh primary was conducted and monitored by INEC, affirming Haske as the party's candidate. Shehu maintains that the process fully complied with Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022.
