Adamawa State Power Projects Expand Electricity Access
Nigeria's federal and state governments have launched major electricity initiatives in Adamawa State. Minister of Power Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe broke ground on three interconnected mini‑grid projects in the Kofare, Saminaka and Mbamba communities, adding about 13.5 MW of renewable capacity. The projects are part of the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale‑up (DARES) programme, which includes a total of 39 mini‑grids slated to serve roughly 40,000 households, 6,000 micro‑small‑medium enterprises and more than 100 public institutions across the state.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has also ordered the urgent reconnection of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company’s main grid from Uba to Madagali, targeting completion by December 2026. The reconnection aims to restore power to the Madagali Local Government Area, which has endured over a decade of darkness following the destruction of infrastructure during the Boko Haram insurgency. Both the mini‑grid roll‑out and the grid reconnection are intended to spur economic activity, improve health and education services, and reduce reliance on costly generators.
