school shooting teacher murder family dispute Osmaniye Farabi Anatolian High School

A Turkish language and literature teacher, Mehmet Bilgili, was fatally shot in the courtyard of Farabi Anatolian High School in Osmaniye. The attack occurred in the Çardak village area.

Osmaniye Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti stated that the shooting was not directed at the school or the education system, but was instead the result of a long-standing family dispute between the victim and his nephew, A.E.B. The suspect, who reportedly has a history of psychiatric treatment, was apprehended by a school security guard immediately following the incident. The weapon used in the attack was an unlicensed handgun.

National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin issued a condolence message and announced that high-level bureaucrats have been dispatched to the region to oversee the administrative and judicial processes. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
