Adana's Tepebağ Neighborhood Faces Safety Hazards from Abandoned Buildings

In the historic Tepebağ neighbourhood of Adana’s Seyhan district, a number of abandoned, deteriorating buildings have raised serious safety and environmental concerns among residents. Citizens report that crumbling structures shed stones, timber and debris onto streets, creating risks for pedestrians and vehicles, while the neglect has led to litter, insect problems and a general sense of insecurity, especially after dark.

Neighbourhood headman Mehmet Demir warned that the ruins pose “serious security and environmental problems,” noting that children’s play areas are threatened by falling bricks and that only a few buildings have been restored while many remain unrepaired. Residents such as Şule Çevik echoed these worries, describing frequent stone falls, lack of parking safety and the need for municipal investment in cleaning, road repairs and building renovation. The community is calling on local authorities for increased maintenance, infrastructure work and a comprehensive clean‑up to make the area safe and livable again.
