Adapterra Awards announces 18 finalists for climate adaptation projects

The Adapterra Awards, an ecological competition focused on climate change adaptation, has announced its 18 finalists. The competition features three main categories—landscape, settlements, and buildings—alongside a new special category for agriculture. An expert jury will select winners for the main categories, while the public can vote for a People's Choice Award until October 1.

Among the finalists is the 'Květnaté louky' (Flower Meadows) project in Prague 12. This initiative has transformed approximately 4,700 square meters of intensively mown housing estate lawns into biodiverse flower meadows using regional seed mixes. The project aims to increase soil water retention by up to 30%, cool the surrounding environment, and support pollinators. It also offers economic benefits by reducing mowing frequency by 50 to 70 percent and requires no regular irrigation or fertilization.

Other notable finalists include the transformation of agricultural landscapes near Mikulov, an energy-efficient headquarters for Czech Games Edition in Prague, and various revitalized parks and residential complexes across the Czech Republic.
