ADE and VibeLab launch Nighttime Culture Index

The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) and international consultancy VibeLab are launching the Nighttime Culture Index (NCI), a new global tool designed to measure the cultural vitality of nightlife and club culture. Unlike traditional studies that focus on the economic impact of the night economy, the NCI aims to quantify the cultural value that nightlife provides to cities and their communities.

The index will evaluate nightlife landscapes based on six key dimensions: diversity and representation, creative ecology, space and infrastructure, community and connectedness, policy and urban vitality, and sustainability and environment. The findings will be presented through an interactive public dashboard and an annual report.

The inaugural edition will examine six cities across six continents: Amsterdam, Lagos, New York, São Paulo, Seoul, and Sydney. The project is planned as a three-year collaboration, with the intention of expanding to more cities after 2027. The NCI is intended to serve as a resource for local scenes, industry professionals, and city officials to better understand, strengthen, and protect their cultural environments.
