Launch of the Nighttime Culture Index
Overview
The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) and consultancy VibeLab have partnered to launch the Nighttime Culture Index (NCI). This global initiative is designed to measure the cultural vitality of nightlife and club culture, moving beyond traditional studies that focus solely on economic impact.
The inaugural edition of the index is scheduled to launch this October during the 30th anniversary of ADE. The project will evaluate six cities across six continents: Amsterdam, Lagos, New York, São Paulo, Seoul, and Sydney. Assessment is based on six dimensions: diversity and representation, creative ecology, space and infrastructure, community and belonging, policy and civic health, and sustainability and environment.
Findings will be shared via an annual report and an interactive public dashboard to assist industry professionals, grassroots scenes, and city officials. The collaboration is planned as a three-year project, with the intention of adding at least two additional cities to the index in 2027 and 2028.
