ADEDY announces 24-hour nationwide strike in Greece
The Panhellenic Federation of Public Employees (ADEDY) has called for a 24-hour nationwide strike on November 25. The federation's primary demands include the immediate reinstatement of the 13th and 14th month salaries for public sector workers, substantial wage increases, and measures to combat the cost-of-living and housing crises.
Additional demands include mass hiring of permanent staff—particularly in health, education, and social security—the abolition of the 2% unemployment contribution, and an increase in the tax-free threshold. ADEDY also seeks to protect public assets against privatization and protect the institution of permanent employment.
In a related legal move, ADEDY intends to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights regarding a Council of State decision concerning holiday and leave bonuses for public employees. Prior to the strike, a protest rally is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, outside the Ministry of Finance to address energy poverty and inflation.
