Adelaide circuit layout revealed for 2027 MotoGP transition
The South Australian Government has released the official layout for the new Adelaide MotoGP circuit, which is set to replace Phillip Island starting in 2027. The 4.13-kilometer track will be located within a city parkland, making it one of the shortest circuits in the championship with 15 corners and two chicanes.
Initial concerns regarding safety on a street-style circuit have been addressed in the revised design through the inclusion of temporary gravel run-off areas. Riders Jack Miller and Alex Marquez reacted to the layout, noting that while it utilizes existing roads, the safety features make it appear more like a normal road-race track than a traditional urban street circuit.
The project involves an estimated investment of approximately $96 million. However, the transition has faced local opposition due to environmental concerns, specifically the potential felling of hundreds of trees required for track adaptation. In response, officials have committed to replanting more trees than those removed.
