Adelaide MotoGP circuit project faces Federal Court legal challenge

The South Australian government is facing a legal challenge in the Federal Court regarding plans to construct a $96 million MotoGP street circuit in Adelaide. An application filed by Joshua Hogan seeks an urgent interim injunction to halt works associated with the project. Opponents have raised concerns over the environmental impact, specifically the potential removal of nearly 400 trees in the Eastern Parklands to accommodate the circuit and runoff areas.

Despite the litigation, the government has confirmed it intends to defend its position. Premier Peter Malinauskas highlighted the economic potential of the project, noting that the inaugural MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia – Adelaide is scheduled for November 12–14, 2027. The state anticipates that hosting both MotoGP and the bp Adelaide Grand Final within the same month could generate a combined annual economic return exceeding $200 million.
