Adelaide University expands STEM and outreach programs

Adelaide University has implemented several initiatives to support diverse educational needs in South Australia. The Maths in Schools Professional Learning program, developed by the university’s Computer Science Education Research Group in collaboration with Education Services Australia, is designed to help teachers implement the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics Version 9.0. At East Torrens Primary School, the program has enabled staff to adopt new strategies for collaborative, problem-solving activities in STEM education.

Additionally, the University Makes a Difference Outreach Program has more than tripled in size. The program supports high school students in alternative education settings or those facing significant barriers to traditional pathways, such as disability, mental health concerns, or long-term illness. This year, 53 participants from nine schools in Adelaide’s northern suburbs and Port Lincoln engaged in research on topics ranging from homelessness to artificial intelligence and First Nations conservation.
