South Australian vocational and educational expansion

Overview

South Australia is implementing various initiatives to bolster its workforce and educational sectors. In the vocational sector, efforts are being made to address projected skilled labor shortages in defence and construction. This includes the establishment of a new primary training center in Adelaide by Weld Australia and the Australian Academy of Welding Technology, which will utilize Industry 4.0 technology to support projects like the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine program. Additionally, the state government has launched a $3 million Equipment and Capital Grants initiative to help training providers upgrade facilities for critical trades.

In the academic sphere, Adelaide University has introduced programs to support STEM education and student outreach. These include professional learning programs for teachers to implement new mathematics curricula and the expansion of the ‘University Makes a Difference Outreach Program’, which provides research opportunities to high school students facing significant educational barriers.
