Aden Governor Abdulrahman Sheikh advances solar street lighting and disability route projects

The public works office in Aden has begun a solar‑powered street‑lighting project along a 9‑km stretch from the Kaltex roundabout to the Abu Harbaa area. The system, overseen by Engineer Waleed Al‑Sarrari, will be installed in two directions, each 4.5 km, and is funded with local provincial resources. The governor, Abdulrahman Sheikh, says the initiative will improve traffic safety, reduce the load on the national electricity grid, cut costs and promote renewable energy.

In parallel, a field‑survey team led by Traffic Police Brigadier Nasser Fadel Al‑Shawosh is mapping safe routes for people with disabilities across Aden’s districts, including Sira, Maala, Tawahi and others. The project, coordinated with the Dream of Peace organization and local engineers, aims to identify and later construct accessible pathways to schools, hospitals and public spaces, seeking donor support for implementation. Both efforts are part of the governor’s broader plan to upgrade infrastructure and enhance mobility for all residents of the temporary capital.
