Aden, Yemen: Multiple explosions reported in provisional capital
Multiple explosions were heard in Aden, Yemen, the provisional seat of the country’s internationally recognized government, on Saturday. Police sources and journalists reported hearing at least three blasts within the city.
One police source indicated that Houthi rebels targeted a Saudi-led coalition position near the Aden airport, as well as the coast guard. While neither side has officially commented on the specific Saturday attacks, the Houthis have increased their activity in the region recently. This follows a series of strikes against the presidential palace and the Al-Maasik presidential complex used by government and coalition forces.
The escalation comes amid the collapse of a 2022 truce and ongoing tensions between the Iranian-backed Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition. Recent Houthi actions have included missile strikes on the airport and naval blockades, contributing to the broader instability in the Middle East.
