Adif moves ahead with upgrades on Spain's Bobadilla‑Algeciras and Malaga‑Seville rail lines

Adif has launched two contracts worth a combined €3.11 million to draft construction projects for the Bobadilla‑Algeciras railway. One contract (€1.27 million) covers acoustic protection for the Ronda‑San Pablo de Buceite section, while the other (€1.84 million) focuses on track renewal, infrastructure works and gauge adaptation between km 0 and 20 of the line. These studies are part of a broader modernization programme that includes electrification, signalling upgrades and the installation of GSM‑R communications, with total investment in the line exceeding €514 million. The line is strategic for freight traffic to the Port of Algeciras, a key hub in the Atlantic‑Mediterranean corridor.

Separately, Adif has completed all civil‑works for the high‑speed link between Málaga and Sevilla and is now executing the electrification phase. The project, funded with €39 million, aims to cut travel time to about 1.5 hours and is slated for service entry in 2026. The works include platform construction, track laying, power supply and signalling systems, and are expected to improve connectivity in Andalusia and reduce congestion at Córdoba‑Julio Anguita station.
