UAE condemns attack on ADNOC vessel in Strait of Hormuz
The United Arab Emirates has condemned an attack on an Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, August 14, 2026. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterized the incident as ‘acts of piracy’ carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, accusing Tehran of using the waterway for economic coercion and blackmail.
This event marks the third attack on ADNOC vessels in approximately one week. Since the onset of the regional conflict on February 28, ADNOC reports that 15 of its ships have been targeted by missiles and drones. While the most recent attack resulted in no reported injuries, the frequency of these incidents has heightened concerns regarding global energy security and the freedom of maritime navigation.
In response, Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, stated that the nation would pursue a policy based on the ‘triad of deterrence, diplomacy, and adherence to international law.’ The UAE has called on Iran to immediately cease all hostilities and unconditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Regional neighbors, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, have also condemned the attacks, describing them as a threat to international maritime safety and global energy supplies.
