ADP teachers initiate protests in Neiba and Higüey

The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) has initiated protest measures ahead of the 2026-2027 school year in several regions. In Neiba, the local ADP branch has instructed teachers to skip Ministry of Education training workshops and instead remain at their schools only until late morning, citing unresolved demands regarding infrastructure and teacher evaluations.

In Higüey, the ADP has announced a series of concentrations at various schools scheduled from August 26 to September 2. The union also plans to maintain a schedule where teachers are present in classrooms without students until 11:00 AM. These actions follow the expiration of a 36-hour deadline given to educational authorities to respond to union demands.

The Federation of Parents, Mothers, and Friends of Schools (Apmae) in Higüey has formally challenged these measures. While acknowledging the teachers' right to organize, Apmae issued an injunction against the ADP, arguing that suspending teaching activities violates the constitutional right to education and harms students.
