Adrian Câciu faces discrimination complaint and proposes diaspora measures

Romanian MP Adrian Câciu is facing scrutiny following controversial remarks made during a Foreign Affairs Committee meeting. Câciu reportedly directed chauvinistic comments toward Gábor Hajdu, chair of the meeting and representative of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), stating that Hajdu did not understand what it meant to be Romanian and should not have the right to speak.

In response to the incident, a complaint has been filed with the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD). Iulian Lőrincz, a Member of Parliament from the Save Romania Union (USR), condemned the remarks as xenophobic and abusive, noting that such behavior has no place in a European parliament.

Separately, Câciu has also discussed policy measures aimed at the Romanian diaspora. As vice-president of the Committee for Budget, Finance, and Banks, he proposed initiatives to encourage Romanians living abroad to return home, including reintegration incentives and employment priorities. He emphasized the need to rebuild trust in state services and improve the relationship between the government and the diaspora through programs like ‘Diaspora Investește Acasă’.
