Adrian Mutu potentially returns to Romanian national team

Adrian Mutu is being considered as a candidate to lead the Romanian U21 national team. Mihai Stoichiță, the technical director of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), indicated that while nothing is finalized, Mutu is viewed as a very good coach and remains a possibility for the role.

The potential coaching change follows the failure of the current U21 coach, Costin Curelea, to qualify for EURO 2027. Stoichiță noted that the federation must first hold discussions with Curelea before deciding on a successor. In the interim, the federation will focus on upcoming U20 matches against Switzerland and Poland to shape the future U21 squad.

Separately, in a podcast appearance, Mutu addressed past allegations regarding match-fixing during his playing career at Dinamo, specifically concerning a match against FC Onești. Mutu denied any personal knowledge of such arrangements at the time.
