Adrian Veștea warns political uncertainty threatens Romania’s EU fund rollout
Prime‑minister‑designate Adrian Veștea said that the current political uncertainty in Romania poses a major risk to the implementation of projects financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). He stressed that a fully functional executive and a Parliament willing to adopt the pending legislation are essential to absorb the remaining EU funds. Veștea met with Florin Zaharia, the proposed minister for Investments and European Projects, who previously coordinated key PNRR files with the European Commission.
Veștea also announced his withdrawal from the PNL leadership race, accusing the party’s top brass of dictatorial tactics and a “democratic simulacrum”. He warned that the rushed party congress aims to block the government he has been tasked to form. Without the backing of his own party, Veștea now faces a complex parliamentary negotiation to secure the votes needed for his cabinet’s investiture.
