Adrianos Golemis prepares for Greece’s first manned space mission

Greek astronaut Adrianos Golemis and Minister of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence Dimitris Papastegiou have presented the preparations for Greece’s first participation in a manned space mission, scheduled for July 2027.

The Vast-PAM-1 mission is being conducted in collaboration with NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). Golemis will serve alongside crew members Thomas Pesquet and Aleš Svoboda. The mission includes conducting various scientific experiments on the International Space Station (ISS) in fields such as medicine, pharmacology, and technology, as well as educational initiatives.

Golemis, a medical doctor, is undergoing official ESA astronaut training in Cologne, Germany. The mission will utilize a SpaceX capsule, with the launch expected to take place from Florida, USA. This initiative is part of Greece’s broader national space strategy, which includes the ‘HELLAS-SPACE 2.0’ program, a 350 million euro project funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
