Adrianos Golemis to become first Greek astronaut on RAM-6 mission
Adrianos Golemis, the first Greek astronaut, has been announced as a mission specialist for the RAM-6 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission, scheduled for 2027, represents the first private astronaut mission awarded by NASA to the company Vast.
Golemis, a flight surgeon for the European Space Agency (ESA), will travel aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft launched by a Falcon 9 rocket. He will serve alongside mission commander Thomas Pesquet of France. Golemis noted that the mission will include research experiments conducted by Greek universities and companies, aiming to advance innovation and research in the aerospace sector.
His training for this demanding role will take place in the United States, Europe, and Japan. The mission focuses on scientific research, particularly regarding the effects of microgravity on the human body and how space research can improve medical treatments on Earth.
