Adriatic airports report diverging passenger trends

Regional airports in the Adriatic are reporting divergent passenger trends for the 2026 summer season. Split Airport in Croatia has seen a slight decline in traffic. In July, the airport handled 770,152 passengers, a 2.1 percent decrease compared to the same month last year. For the first seven months of the year, total passenger numbers reached 2,099,324, representing a 0.38 percent decrease. Officials attributed this to rising fuel prices, flight cancellations, and global passenger flow shifts related to the World Cup.

In contrast, Tivat Airport in Montenegro has experienced significant growth. From the beginning of the year through August 1, the airport handled 782,888 passengers, a 10.6 percent increase over the previous year. July traffic rose by 10.9 percent to 292,868 passengers. Despite this growth, Tivat Airport reports that its infrastructure and terminal capacities are being stretched to their limits, particularly during peak periods when aircraft parking and terminal space are insufficient for the volume of flights.
