AE Iraklis protests nationalist banner at MZT Skopje match

AE Iraklis has filed formal complaints following the display of a nationalist banner during a FIBA Europe Cup match against MZT Skopje. The banner, displayed in the stands of the MZT Skopje arena before the game, featured a map of a ‘United Macedonia’ that included Greek territories of Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki.

The banner also included the message: ‘We will defend your sacred name throughout the world.’

Representatives from AE Iraklis immediately notified the game commissioner, Eleonora Ranzelova, requesting the removal of the banner. The club also contacted the Greek Embassy in Skopje to ensure official notification of the incident. AE Iraklis has announced plans to submit a further official complaint to FIBA following the conclusion of the match.
