Aegio double murder investigation centers on 26‑year‑old Olympian and 65‑year‑old Italian suspect

Greek police are investigating a double homicide that occurred in the coastal town of Aegio. The victims were a 26‑year‑old Greek Olympian and his mother, who had recently undergone surgery. According to the Olympian’s girlfriend, he had returned from Berlin because he believed his mother’s behavior had changed after the operation and that she was secretly drinking alcohol. She said he told her, “She wasn’t the same person anymore,” and that he was seeking help from mental‑health professionals before the killings.

The primary suspect remains a 65‑year‑old Italian man who was staying with the Olympian’s mother and is being held in the Koridal prison. Investigators have found no DNA or fingerprints on the knife believed to have been used, and the weapon yielded no usable prints. The girlfriend recounted their last communications, noting they exchanged messages until the early hours of the morning, with a final unread text sent just before the murders.
