Aenon Metropolitan Park contract signed for Faliro Bay redevelopment
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has signed the construction contract for the Aenon Metropolitan Park at Faliro Bay, marking the start of a major urban redevelopment project in Attica. The project, described by the government as a milestone for reconnecting Athens with its coastline, has a total budget of 370 million euros, supported by European Union funds.
The park is designed to cover approximately 741 to 1,000 stremmata, featuring over 4,000 trees and 185,000 shrubs to create a green lung for the region. It will include walking paths, cycling tracks, sports facilities, playgrounds, and cultural spaces, while also aiming to protect the local wetland.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with the project expected to be completed and opened to the public by the second half of 2029. Officials noted that the project overcomes decades of bureaucratic delays and was a critical step in the broader development plan for the Athenian Riviera.
