Aeschylus' ancient tragedy “Persae” opens at Epidaurus before touring Greece

The classic Aeschylus tragedy “Persae” will be staged at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus on 3‑4 July 2026 under the direction of Christos Theodoridis. The production features Maria Naupliotou, Dimitris Kataleifos, Anastasios Roilós and Stavros Svigos, supported by a 17‑member dance ensemble. After the Epidaurus performances the show will travel to open‑air venues across Athens and other Greek cities, including Larissa, Volos, Thessaloniki, Sparta, Kalamata, Olympia and Patras.

“Persae”, the earliest surviving complete work of ancient Greek drama and a contemporary account of the Battle of Salamis, is presented as an anti‑war statement. The director frames the piece around modern political concerns, emphasizing collective loss and the human cost of conflict. The tour aims to bring the historic drama to wider audiences throughout Greece.
