Afenifere organization plans burial for leader Reuben Fasoranti
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere has announced funeral arrangements for its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, who passed away at the age of 100. The organization has dismissed rumors of an internal leadership crisis, stating that its current priority is ensuring a dignified farewell for the late statesman.
Burial activities are scheduled to begin with a Christian wake-keeping on December 16, 2026, followed by a funeral service and interment at St. David’s Cathedral in Akure on December 17. A thanksgiving service will conclude the programs on December 20.
Oba Olu Falae, Chairman of the National Executive Committee, is working with the Fasoranti family to coordinate the burial committee. Afenifere leadership, including Deputy Leader Oba Oladipo Olaitan, emphasized that succession will follow established organizational traditions and internal selection processes rather than personal campaigning or lobbying.
