AFIR allocates nearly 170 million euros in EU funds for Romanian farmers
The Agency for the Financing of Rural Investments (AFIR) has made nearly 170 million euros available to farmers through the DR-12 intervention, aimed at consolidating agricultural holdings. One week after the project submission session opened, interest from farmers remains relatively low.
In the livestock sector, interest has been particularly modest. Out of an allocated budget of approximately 84.8 million euros, only 31 projects totaling about 5.98 million euros have been registered. Similarly, in sectors including large-scale crops, horticulture, and fruit growing, approximately 267 projects have been submitted, leaving roughly 77 million euros in available funds.
The current session for the DR-12 intervention is scheduled to run from October 6 to December 2, 2026. Experts suggest that the remaining funds may provide an opportunity for farmers who did not meet the necessary scoring thresholds in previous stages, as access to financing may become more accessible in subsequent phases.
