Afreximbank retains AAA credit rating from CCXI

China Chengxin International Credit Rating (CCXI) has affirmed the African Export-Import Bank’s (Afreximbank) AAA issuer credit rating with a stable outlook for the second consecutive year. The rating, released in a 2026 credit report in Beijing, is expected to remain stable for the next 12 to 18 months.

CCXI cited several factors supporting the bank’s credit profile, including its strategic positioning, risk management systems, business development flexibility, profitability, and prudent liquidity management. The agency also noted a high coverage ratio of current assets relative to short-term debts.

Chandi Mwenebungu, Afreximbank’s Managing Director of Treasury and Markets, stated that the affirmation serves as an endorsement of the institution’s financial strength and its ability to support member states while mobilizing capital from diverse global markets. This rating follows the bank’s recent expansion into Chinese capital markets, including the issuance of a 2.2 billion yuan Panda bond and its participation in the China Cross-border Interbank Payment System (CIPS).
