African contemporary art exhibitions announced in Kinshasa and Paris
Visual artist Aïcha Muteba is presenting a solo exhibition titled ‘Rencontre’ at the Memling Hotel in Kinshasa. Running from October 20 to December 15, 2026, the exhibition explores human history, cultural diversity, and environmental preservation. Muteba, an artist and curator trained at the Academy of Fine Arts, incorporates recycled waste from Kinshasa into her works to promote environmental respect.
In Paris, the AKAA (Also Known As Africa) fair will hold its eleventh edition from October 23 to 25, 2026, at the Carreau du Temple. The event aims to support the international recognition of African and Afro-descendant artists. A new section, ‘AKAA PHOTO’, has been introduced to highlight African photographic practices and histories, featuring galleries from Cameroon, Mozambique, Côte d’Ivoire, and Uganda, alongside European and Caribbean participants.
