African football faces coaching shifts and CAN 2027 hosting uncertainty
African football is undergoing significant structural changes ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Several major national teams have recently overhauled their coaching staffs, including Senegal with Patrick Vieira, Côte d’Ivoire with Hervé Renard, and Ghana with Carlos Queiroz.
Simultaneously, uncertainty surrounds the hosting of the 2027 tournament. While Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are the designated hosts, CAF President Patrice Motsepe has noted a situation of “grande urgence” due to construction delays in Kenya and Uganda. Although Motsepe stated there is currently “ni plan B ni plan C,” the potential for relocation has resurfaced. Algeria is noted as one of the few nations with the necessary infrastructure, including seven approved stadiums, should a replacement host be required.
