African regional workshops advance climate finance and fiscal policy
Regional workshops in Nairobi, Kenya, and Pretoria, South Africa, are advancing climate project financing for Zambia and other Southern African nations. Held under the African Development Fund’s Climate Action Window, these sessions aim to strengthen project readiness for climate adaptation and mitigation across 37 eligible countries.
Technical assistance portfolios in Southern and East Africa are projected to enable approximately US$225 million and US$407 million in climate finance, respectively. The initiative focuses on institutional capacity, green finance, and technical assistance to prepare larger climate investments.
In a separate regional effort, finance ministries from across Southern Africa met in Gaborone, Botswana, for the Pan-African Forum of Finance Ministers for Climate Action (PAFCA) workshop. The forum focused on integrating climate considerations into national economic and fiscal systems, specifically addressing carbon markets, macro-fiscal modelling, natural capital accounting, and climate budget tagging.
