African swimming teams see success at regional championships
Uganda’s swimming team secured second place at the ANOCA Zone V Youth Games in Nairobi, Kenya, earning nine medals: three gold, three silver, and three bronze. Standout performer Arthur Mwase won gold in the men’s 14–17 100m freestyle and contributed to silver medals in both the mixed 4x100m freestyle and medley relays. Tyler Muganzi also secured a gold medal in the women’s 14–17 50m butterfly.
In a separate continental competition, Nigeria achieved its best performance in over a decade at the 2026 Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championships in Dakar, Senegal. The Nigerian team earned 35 medals, including 17 gold, 14 silver, and four bronze. Lekan Fatodu, President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, noted that the achievement serves as a significant milestone for the sport's development and aids preparations for the upcoming 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
