African Swine Fever in Croatia's Slavonia Leads to Protection Zones

The Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries confirmed cases of African swine fever (ASF) in the Slavonia region, specifically in livestock facilities in the villages of Ivanovo (Viljevo municipality) and Kućanci (Magadenovac municipality). In response, authorities mandated the culling of all affected pigs—62 animals at the Ivanovo site—and carried out safe disposal and preliminary disinfection of the premises.

A ministerial decision established new protection and monitoring zones across Osijek‑Baranja and Virovitica‑Podravina counties, covering dozens of settlements such as Ivanovo, Bockovac, Blanje, Cret Viljevski, Donji Miholjac, Rakitovica, and many others. The zones are subject to EU‑delegated regulations for ASF control, requiring strict bio‑security measures and responsible behaviour from farmers to prevent further spread of the disease.
