African Swine Fever reaches 358 wild boars in Catalonia

The Catalan government reported that African swine fever (ASF) has infected a total of 358 wild boars in the region since the first cases were detected on 28 November 2025. Three new positive animals were identified this week in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona and El Papiol, bringing the count to the current tally.

The outbreak zone now covers 19 municipalities, including parts of Vallès Occidental and the Collserola natural park. Authorities have captured 8,447 wild boars in the affected area, with 409 captured in the past week, using 47 traps, 94 collective capture systems and 350 barriers. A response team of 1,563 personnel from rural police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, civil guard, agricultural services and other agencies continues to monitor carcasses, enforce access restrictions and advise the public not to feed wildlife. ASF does not affect humans but poses a serious risk to domestic pig farms.
