Afrigo Band to continue operations following death of founder Moses Matovu

Management of the Afrigo Band has announced that the group will continue operations and honor all existing bookings following the death of its founder and leader, Moses Matovu. Matovu, known as ‘Papa Moi’, passed away on 24 September 2026, leaving a musical legacy spanning over five decades.

Executive Director James Wasula stated that the band remains intact and is committed to maintaining its performance standards. The management emphasized that Matovu instilled discipline and values that will continue to guide the group.

Musician Joanita Kawalya noted during Matovu’s burial that the veteran had spent years preparing the remaining members to carry on his work. She indicated that band members held a meeting to discuss future plans and ensure the group fulfills the vision established by Matovu and fellow founding member Jeff Sekyanzi.
