Agadir Port undergoes infrastructure expansion and climate resilience upgrades
Morocco’s National Ports Agency (ANP) is advancing major infrastructure projects at the Port of Agadir to enhance maritime capacity and climate resilience. The agency has committed over 19 million dirhams to geotechnical and hydraulic studies for a new dedicated cruise terminal. This project follows a significant increase in maritime activity, with 91,345 cruise passengers visiting the port in 2025, representing a 54.2% annual increase. The new terminal is planned for an area near the Royal Marine quay to accommodate larger vessels.
Simultaneously, the ANP has launched a tender for the final phase of a new access road to the port. This five-kilometer section is part of a climate resilience program aimed at protecting Atlantic ports from rising sea levels and coastal flooding. The program is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which is providing €40 million in financing. The road project, part of the port’s north-east ring road, is intended to connect the port area with Al Massira Airport and is expected to be completed by May 2027.
