Agadir port infrastructure development
Overview
Morocco’s National Ports Agency (ANP) is executing a series of infrastructure upgrades at the Port of Agadir to increase maritime capacity and improve climate resilience. Initial efforts focused on geotechnical and hydraulic studies for a new cruise terminal, following a 54.2% increase in cruise passenger traffic in 2025. This expansion is supported by a €40 million financing package from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to protect Atlantic ports from rising sea levels.
Development has progressed to include the construction of the Agadir North-East bypass and the Abaraz underpass, a project valued at 76.7 million dirhams. These works are part of a broader 481.8 million dirham investment to upgrade the port complex. Additionally, the ANP is developing a third access point to manage rising traffic volumes, which reached 7.5 million tonnes in 2025.
