Agbara Nla: The Return sets Nollywood box office records

The Nollywood film ‘Agbara Nla: The Return’ has set new box office benchmarks in Nigeria. Before its nationwide theatrical release, preview screenings generated over N71 million from approximately 12,134 admissions.

Following its official cinema release on October 1, the film continued its strong performance, grossing N99.8 million over the weekend. This brought its cumulative earnings to N170.58 million, allowing the Nigerian production to outpace major Hollywood releases on the local charts.

Directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, the faith-based film is a reimagining of Mike Bamiloye’s ‘Agbara Nla’. The story follows two professionals who leave their careers to spread the Gospel in a village controlled by a powerful herbalist. Early revenue was heavily concentrated in the South West, with Lagos accounting for 50.8 per cent of the reported earnings.
