Agenzia delle Entrate warns of new phishing scam
The Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) has issued an official warning regarding a new phishing campaign targeting taxpayers. Fraudulent emails are being sent using the agency’s name and logos, featuring fake administrative notifications that include realistic-looking protocol numbers and document codes to gain user trust.
The scam specifically targets tax returns, claiming there are discrepancies in the data provided. Victims are pressured with urgent deadlines and alarmist tones, often being instructed to pay a fake fine of 732.00 euros by a specific date via a link to a fraudulent portal. The primary goals of the attackers are to steal sensitive personal information, login credentials, and financial data, or to extort direct payments.
To identify these attacks, the agency advises users to check the sender's domain, as fraudulent addresses do not match official institutional domains. Users are warned not to click on links or download attachments from suspicious emails. Instead, they should access their personal area directly through the official agency portal to verify any administrative status.
