Phishing scams targeting Italian taxpayers
Overview
In late September 2026, the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) warned of a phishing campaign using fraudulent communications regarding unpaid car taxes. The scam utilized fake domains to trick citizens into providing personal details and credit card information for a small payment of 15.87 euros.
By late October 2026, the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) reported a similar campaign. This new wave of phishing used realistic administrative notifications and urgent deadlines to claim discrepancies in tax returns. These fraudulent emails pressured victims to pay a fake fine of 732.00 euros through deceptive portals to steal sensitive credentials and financial data.
