Aging Concerns Rise in Argentina and Spain: Elder Sexuality, Abuse Awareness, and Muscle Loss

In Argentina, activists highlighted the World Day of Awareness of Elder Abuse, noting how ageist language and stereotypes obscure older adults’ sexual rights and the experiences of LGBTI+ seniors. They call for greater visibility of pleasure and consent among the elderly, referencing United Nations initiatives and the regional constitutional protection of older persons’ rights.

In Spain, Dr. Humberto Leclerc warned that “each year after the age of 30 we start losing muscle mass gradually,” describing sarcopenia as a silent threat to mobility, metabolism and independence. He advised that strength‑training exercises two to three times a week, combined with adequate protein intake and healthy habits, can significantly slow this decline.

Both pieces underscore the need for societal and medical strategies to support aging populations, from respecting sexual autonomy to preventing physical frailty.
