Greece and Lebanon upgrade relations to Strategic Partnership

Greece and Lebanon have upgraded their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership following a meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. The new framework establishes regular meetings covering foreign policy, defense, energy, and culture.

As part of this enhanced cooperation, Greece has delivered a second shipment of military equipment to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). Delivered via the transport ship ‘Rhodos’ to the port of Beirut, the shipment includes 13 M113 armored personnel carriers and 10 STEYR 680 M general-purpose vehicles, along with spare parts. This follows an initial delivery of similar equipment in January 2026.

The leaders also discussed energy cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean and acknowledged ongoing negotiations between Lebanon and Israel mediated by the United States, noting that the security of both nations is not a conflicting goal.
