Greece-Lebanon strategic partnership and military aid
Overview
Greece and Lebanon have strengthened their bilateral ties through military assistance and a formal upgrade in diplomatic relations. Following an initial shipment of equipment in January 2026, Greece delivered a second batch of military aid to the Lebanese Armed Forces on August 29, 2026. This shipment, transported via the vessel ‘RODOS’ to the Port of Beirut, included 13 M113 armored personnel carriers, 10 STEYR 680 M general-purpose vehicles, and spare parts.
Building on this defense cooperation, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met to upgrade the relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’. This new framework establishes regular cooperation across foreign policy, defense, energy, and culture. During discussions, the leaders also addressed energy cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean and noted the ongoing U.S.-mediated negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, stating that the security of both nations is not a conflicting goal.
